The Celtic Barn Waipu
1.00 pm 8 November
A wonderful afternoon of high caliber music and piping is promised when the members of the Northland Caledonian Pipe Band (formerly the Whangarei and County) Pipe Band hold a concert in the new Celtic Barn in Waipu.
Playing in the Barn takes the band to their roots of Scottish heritage and culture in N.Z.
The concert is a fundraiser as the band will be performing at four major contests over the next five months as a lead up to the Nationals in Fielding in March 2016. The band came in second place in Grade 2 at Nelson last year; a worthy result they are hoping to better. However attending all these events is not a cheap exercise hence the Celtic Harmonies Concert in the Barn which forms but one of the fund raisers planned going forward.
It will be held on the afternoon of eighth of November at 1.00 p.m. Bain Mcgregor and Neil Mogey have put together another enjoyable, brilliant and satisfying mix of both traditional and modern Scottish and Celtic compositions.
The “New Generation Ceilidh Band” (Keyboard, Lead and Bass Guitars and Kit Drum) will join with the Northland Caledonian Pipe Band to give a wide array of music and talent. They will also be joined with items from the “Poet from the South”, Colin Caddick, together with “Brucey from the Bog” for more varied, humorous and lighthearted entertainment.
There are 13 young members under the age of 17 in the band which has a playing strength of 35. This is a large proportion of young people and more than most bands can boast. The concert is a brilliant way to both raise money for their challenge of the Nationals and for the wider public to see and hear their skills. Put it in your diaries now. Tickets are available from members of the Band, Whangarei Suit Hire, Waipu Museum, Thirsty Liquour and from individual band members.
