Our goal is to have 20 by the 20th February 2013. Latest additions are the Circool Circus and Gallipoli.

If you have any cool video footage taken in or around Waipu or featuring the greater Waipu community, please email waiputube@gmail.com for instructions to upload onto YouTube – or we can do it for you.

Tartan Week all set to go….

Tartan Week celebrations in Waipu 30 June – 14 July

Events are mostly focused during the weekends, but we hope to expand that in years to come.  Full timetable here

Highlights include:

  • Saturday 3o June  6-10am  Snow and Breakfast at the Kasbah with Classic Hits Radio
    10am – Waipu Pipe Band Parades with all tartan wearers invited to join in – $50 for best dressed
    Enjoy our own street theatre adaptation of “Shaking of the Trousers”
    11.30 Tartan at the Races in Ruakaka
    6.30pm “A Braw Scots Night” at the Clansman Restaurant
    Haggis Tasting at Waipu Butcher
  • Sunday 1 July 10am Kirkin o’ the Tartan at Presbyterian Church
    12 – historic tour of the Waipu Cemetery
  • Monday 2 July and Monday 9 July 7pm Scottish Country Dancing at Coronation Hall

Art n Tartan (almost) sold out!

There are fifty – seven entrants in this year’s Art’ n Tartan Wearable Art Awards, which will be held on Saturday 16 as a grand finale to this year’s Tartan Week in Waipu celebrations. A full dress rehearsal for the show has already been held, but if you thought you wanted a ticket, you may be out of luck.  Tickets to the Waipu Art’ n Tartan show went on sale on Monday 20 June, and the evening show was sold out in 10 minutes, a few matinee tickets remain, and those who have missed out can go on the waiting list at the Waipu Museum. Art n Tartan – one year was not definately not enough!

The word is out: this is your chance – anyone keen to try their hand at wearable art with a “Tartan Twist” Art n Tartan is on again.

The first year was spectacular, and not to be outdone, Waipu Museum is pleased to announce that entry forms are now available for the second Art n Tartan Wearable Art Awards to be held July 16 2011. Read more

Tartan Week Waipu July 1 2010

Tartan Week in Waipu this year is set to grow – with events on every day in the main street, and a major new event – Art n Tartan Wearable Art Awards on Saturday 3 July. Requests for entries have gone out across NZ, and interest is high – entries due in by 31 May.
