Ruakaka Community Market – now at Marsden Cove

A new venue in the marquee at Marsden Cove means that this market will be great whatever the weather might bring!

First market of the season will be 16 October 2011 9-12 Bring the family, there will be fun for everyone – pony rides, lucky door prize, great coffee, arts and crafts, live demonstrations, specialty foods, awesome music, local produce and fresh flowers. Look for the market on the 3rd Sunday of the month at Marsden Cove.

The Great Living Legends Muck-In – Northland

SeaChange Café and Takeaways near the Ruakaka Surf Club, and across the road from the Bream Bay Motel – is a perfect stop off after a walk on the beach – friendly with a focus on fresh local produce. Chooky Dudley and Grant and Wai Mason are the owner/operators of SeaChange Cafe – all three have all recently retired from the corporate world, hence the name SeaChange. Bream Bay Fun Run

The Bream Bay Tides Out Fun Run has graduated to college…

Tides Out Bream Bay Fun Run 6 November 2011 9.30-12pm

It started out in 2002 as a fundraiser for Bream Bay Kindergarten, which ran the event for five years. After a year in abeyance, it was taken up by the Waipu Primary PTA. Many of the parents who had helped to organise the fun run for its five years with the kindergarten now had children at the school. Read more

Whangarei Race Club is getting into the spirit of Tartan Week and hosting  Tartan at the Races on Saturday 2 July.  All are welcome, but especially if you are wearing some tartan!

There will be spot prizes for those who wear ‘the tartan’ and the ‘Tartan Police’ will be about checking out the crowd.

You could Win a bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky and a $5 betting slip.

A great opportunity to network whilst enjoying a social day out and all the entertainment and excitement of a great days racing!!!!

Ruakaka Recreational Centre 24 – 27 January 2011 from 10am -3pm.

Local community circus mand Achmed Abman is organising this government subsidised event.  It is free and you can come for one day or more but you must fill in evaluation forms.  We will do all sort of circus games and tricks to learn as well as fun and laughter to take home or into the upcoming school year.

New Flax Weaving Studio opens in Ruakaka

Nga Taonga Maori is a new raranga (flax weaving) co-operative workshop and studio, which opened on  Saturday 4th December at 3pm with a powhiri and kapahaka in what was formally the garden and hardware shop at 458 Marsden Point Rd., Ruakaka.

“Our aim is to get something in place to pass on this matauranga (knowledge) for tamariki (children) so that these taonga (treasures) will never be lost”, said Hannah Carrington. Read more
