Alan Reid and Rob van Sante – Live in Waipu

Alan Reid, acclaimed song writer and musician from Scotland and the lynchpin of the Battlefield Band has been sponsored by the Waipu Museum to play live in Waipu.   He and Rob van Sante will be appearing at in a one off performance at Waipu’s Ynot @ Artform

Local community circus mand Achmed Abman is organising this government subsidised event.  It is free and you can come for one day or more but you must fill in evaluation forms.  We will do all sort of circus games and tricks to learn as well as fun and laughter to take home or into the upcoming school year.

Art n Tartan – one year was not definately not enough!

The word is out: this is your chance – anyone keen to try their hand at wearable art with a “Tartan Twist” Art n Tartan is on again.

The first year was spectacular, and not to be outdone, Waipu Museum is pleased to announce that entry forms are now available for the second Art n Tartan Wearable Art Awards to be held July 16 2011. Read more

Classics at the Cove – Summer Concert

Tara Lodge in Mangawhai has been having some excellent summer concerts (this years info) and last year at the Kaipara Music Festival at Tara Lodge, I ran into Waipu local Dave Brown. We talked about how great it would be to have a venue like that in Waipu.  “My place would work well” he said, and this year it’s happening - Classics at the Cove at Tahamoana – Dave’s land on 566 Cove Road on 29 January 2011 from midday to 6pm. Circool Circus invites you and your parents to participate at this unique inter active workshop/learn program.

Lots of circus props to get your hands on experience like the “German Wheel” or the “Walking Globe”, Unicycles, clubs, balls and games.

Instructors/teachers and students from local circus groups will assist you.

Watch out for Wu in Waipu

There seems to be always something happening in Waipu – these two characters have been spotted recently at market days.

They are called WU and will be appearing indiscriminately throughout the summer whenever and wherever possible. I think you can call it street performance, it’s very much work in progress.

Body Art in Waipu

Nadine Clement is the Waipu based artist that brought you the tartan sheep in the Waipu Christmas Parade.

Nadine organised a Face Painting and Body Art workshop in Waipu in May which was very high on inspiration, experimentation and creativity, so she is planning another workshop!

She is also anticipating that after the body art category at ‘Art n Tartan’, that there may be an increase in interest and in attendance to learn more about this fascinating art this time round.

The 53rd Victim – performed in Whangarei by Bogwood

On the morning of July 7th 2005, Pip Hall was in London. She wandered into Tavistock Square shortly after that double-decker bus had been destroyed by suicide bombers. Also there at the same time was a young New Zealand woman claiming to be a doctor as she assisted the wounded and the dying.

Hall, the daughter of New Zealand dramatist Roger Hall, was so intrigued by this woman’s story and subsequent fate, that she made her the central character in her award-winning play ‘The 53rd Victim’. Read more

Alison Turner – Azi – thanks for sharing your life with us

Alison Turner was an elf, a creative spirit, a laugh, Huw’s best friend, a director, an actor, a  mother, owner of Alter Ego, a seamstress extraordinaire.  She was 57 and died suddenly last week while hiking on Rangitoto Island. Read more

Art n tartan Wearable Art Awards in Waipu

Tartan Week in Waipu this year is set to grow – with events on every day in the main street, and a major new event – Art n Tartan Wearable Art Awards on Saturday 3 July. Requests for entries have gone out across NZ, and interest is high – entries due in by 31 May.
