Programme

 Saturday 30 June

Complimentary Haggis Tasting at Waipu Butcher

6-10am Classic Hits Breakfast kicks of Tartan Week at the Artform Restaurant in Artform.  Snow for the kids and breakfast available from 6am. Come and join the fun.

10am Waipu Pipe Band Parade People in Tartan and street theatre

  • Young and old People in Tartan invited don their tartan and join the parade.  $50 Prize for the best dressed in Tartan – can be for most Correct or Most outlandish or Most Creative tartan. Strut your stuff!!
  • Some of our young Highland dances will perform Sean Truibhas – Shaking off the Trousers and Donning the Tartan
  • Street Theatre – some local lads will once again be shaking off their trousers and donning a wee bit of tartan to do a fling.  Mr Plod will be keeping a watchful eye.

11.30am  Tartan at the Races – Ruakaka Race Track
Special focus for Ruakaka Race Day – spot prizes and racing fun
The ‘Tartan Police’ will be about checking out the crowd.
Win a bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky and a $5 betting slip.

7.30pm Annual Clan Dinner
at the The Clansman Restaurant  – all welcome Cost: $30 per head

Sunday 1 July – International Tartan Day

10am The Kirkin’ o the Tartan Waipu Presbyterian Church invites all tartan wearers (and others!) to join this special service.

12 midday  A Tour of Historic Waipu Cemetery:

Come and wander and help us uncover some of the stories in the Waipu Cemetery – bring your stories

 

Monday 2

7pm Waipu Scottish Country Dance Club – all welcome to their regular club night at Coronation Hall

Wednesday 4 July – time TBC

Highland Games – introduction to Heavyweight competition for school children.  Should be a great school holiday day out for the family.

 

Friday 6 July

Waipu Rugby and Tarts in Tartan Netball Challenge

Tarts in Tartan Netball at Tennis Courts Caledonian Park

  • 5.30pm 30 vs 40 ys  Under 40s vs over 40s
  • 6.30pm 40 vs 50 yrs - under 50s and over 50s. 
    (Will the over 50s win again!!!)

Men in Kilts Rugby Challenge 7.30pm

Post Match celebrations at the Waipu Rugby Club

This was an amazing night last year – the cold night did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players or the crowd.  Rug up and come and support Waipu.
