Fiona to ride for NZ in Canada

Fiona Southern Training

Our very own local Waipu identity and masters cyclist Fiona Southorn has been selected to represent New Zealand in Canada but only has just under 5 weeks to raise the $7,500 needed for the trip and because of the late notification to all riders there is no time to apply for funding.

How can you help?

Local personal trainer and fitness instructor Sharon Carroll of Smartfitness is heading the team of fundraising, and has had a great response so far – but there is room for more.

Saturday 31st July “a whole lot a fun”

Tartan Week Parade in Waipu

Tartan Week in 2009 was great Рand I think it can only get bigger and better and more fun.  My dream is to get everyone in the town wearing tartan for the whole week, and others coming to visit and wear their tartan and enjoy what we have to offer.  Here are the photos of the Waipu Pipe Band parading on 4 August.

Waipu Deli for morning tea – who you meet

nz-uphill-logo150Its a fabulous day in Bream Bay, and I cycled the 5 kms into the village for my morning coffee at Waipu Deli. I love the serendipity of who you can meet. Today four friends and Vaughan Rosewell who is “Riding the length of NZ to get off my arse and make a difference” He is blogging and tweeting along the way – while in the caf√© he looked on his Iphone to see who was tweeting in Waipu – and found me! My tweets

As Vaughan goes, he is also raising money for TASC (The Agency of Spinal Concerns), a charitable trust that does great work helping people with severe spinal cord injuries to rehabilitate and adjust to their new life in a wheelchair.

Go Vaughan!!
