Pedal Power – a Fun Bike Event in Waipu

9am Sunday 15 April People are invited to ride bikes, unicycles and trikes, skate, scoot, drive mobility scooters, push pushchairs or just plain walk up and back along South Rd. to show their support for the proposed Waipu to Waipu Cove cycle and walking trail.

This fun bike etc. event is planned for Sunday 15 April, and will launch the fundraising effort needed to build the off – road trail. A scoping report to work out where the trail could go has been commissioned from Frame Consultants by the Whangarei District Council and is expected to be available for people to look over by April.

The Mayor of Whangarei, Maurice Cutforth, has promised to be at the fundraising launch, as have Deputy Mayor Phil Halse and Councillor Shelley Deeming who said as long as she doesn’t have to ride anything “with less than four wheels” she is happy to help out.

The start and finish lines will be in the Caledonian park and the starting gun will go off at around 9am. There will be 5 kilometre and 10 kilometre options. Entry is $5 for children, $10 for adults and $20 for family groups. There will be prizes, spot prizes and handouts.

Participants can be as imaginative about their form of transport as they want to be.

The rule is that whatever vehicle they choose is not petrol driven – so you mower boys will have to push your mowers if you want to be in!
