Waipu Christmas Parade 2009
What a great village Waipu is!! 30 community groups and local businesses work the week before Christmas – our busiest time of the year to create floats for the Annual Christmas Parade on Christmas Eve. Its all about a good time, but the treasurers of various groups have their eye on the potential $500 first prize, or the 5 $100 runner up prizes. Competition is fierce with the Waipu Surf Club always odds on to win – again!!!
Hundreds gather in the hours before the 7pm start, to catch up with friends and cruise the street – many dressed in festive clothes trying for the $50 best dressed onlooker prize. This year Liz Hearingwell won the prize with her combination of traditional – tinsel and potutukawa flowers. Most of the the following photos were given to us by someone new to the parade, in exchange for using our internet access at Bream Bay Realty – a more than fair swap I thought.
