Evensong in Waipu
The Waipu Anglican Church and Lauchie McLean got into the spirit of Winter@waipu and organised a traditional Evensong service on Sunday evening 28th June. A choir of about 20 gathered from surrounding districts and met to practise at 2.30pm on the afternoon before the service.
This traditional form of singing was new to many, and there were a few false starts along the way, but Lauchie in his inimitable way, assisted by newcomer Ian Render as cantor and conductor, soon moulded the choir into a unit. Kawiti and Emma Couper did superb solos, and the service at 5pm was indeed an experience, that all present decided should be repeated again.
