A Country Women’s Constitutional Evening

discoCorralie writes: Billed as “a wonderfully informative and hilarious health night for women” the title was definitely tongue in check as a sell out crowd of 150 women gathered at Artform Restaurant for a girls night out.

The MC for the evening was dressed in 1950’s attire including twin set, pearls, matching gloves, bag and shoes with a rather tasteful hat and Dame Edna glasses. The first speaker was an ex-public health nurse who talked to us about the 35 symptoms of the menopause! Just as I was getting utterly depressed by what I had to look forward to, in sprang some ladies all dressed in red with red sparkly wigs dancing with fans to illustrate the “hot flashes” to come!*!

Then just as the speaker was talking about it is not all bad and that one of the symptoms include increased sexual libido – the ladies came back with gold sparkly wigs and black and gold leotards each carrying a 6 metre length of metal pole to demonstrate some sexy pole dancing moves!

The next speaker gave more of an encouragement rather than a talk to have mammograms and smears. Then we had a welcome break for food and drink.

When we returned to our seats we saw there were various exercise bikes and tricycles on the small podium. The speaker was a lady in her 60’s who had taken up marathon and triathlon running late in life and prescribed us lots of exercise as she reported not having one symptom of the menopause. So there was hope after all. This was followed by a rather hilarious gym dance with the ladies practicing on and dancing on the bikes.

The next speaker talked about nutrition, followed by three rather suspicious looking dudes who played their ukeleles and sang to us. Next was a “Gok pretender” to encourage us ladies to make the most of our changing bodies. The finale was two ladies miming to ABBA which got most of us up off our seats to dance.

It was a long evening not ending until 11:30pm but a very funny, yet informative one, look at the aging process we all have to face. Well organized with a great mix of serious and light heartiness to satisfy all and well worth the $15 entrance fee with any profits going to the Cancer Society. All in all an excellent night out
