About Winter@Waipu
The small Northland community of Waipu is awash with creativity and well known for its strong celtic spirit. Set in the heart of Bream Bay which has the best beaches in Northland, Bream Bay is a well known summer playground, and the Winter@Waipu festival ensures it remains a great destination for a mid winter break.
Art in Bream Bay
Waipu and Bream Bay has been a home for artists since Maori first settled here and started creating art that connected them to their story and that of the land. Since the 1960s a lot of artists found their way to Waipu and have made this their base. Discover some of them here...
Tartan Day Celebrated in Waipu, Northland
Since 2005 and the beginnings of Winter@Waipu, Tartan Day has been celebrated in Waipu on 1 July. It has become so popular that we now have it for a week - the Saturday before Tartan Day to the Saturday after Tartan Day.
